National Gliding Week is an annual event first held in June 2004. The purpose of the event was to provide a platform for member clubs of the British Gliding Association to publicise gliding, in particular the events which they had organised for the week.

The web site was created with the aim of providing information on gliding and events for the week for beginners and to put them in contact with their local gliding club. To facilitate this, a database was set up which included;

• a clickable map linked to the database to give details of clubs. Clubs are also sortable by region
• an events database - clubs were given a login and via a simple web form could add details of events, including dates, contact details and press releases. Events are sortable by region, club or date.
• links between the club database and events the club was holding
• a press release database - general press releases were added via a simple web form by staff of the British Gliding Association and press releases in the events database were also displayed
