The web site was for the 4th FAI Junior World Gliding Championships which took place at Husbands Bosworth airfield in August 2005. With a very limited budget, they were keen to use a most of a website which had been used for the 2003 World Championships in Poland, which they had been offered cheaply. We were given the web site as it was, with the only changes being mostly translation of the text and database. In order to convert the site to our needs we had to;
- change the look of the web site to accomodate the logo and marketing literature of the competition
- change or remove pages not relevant to this competition
- add extra pages required by our competition
- amend some funcionality, such as the results updating, to fit in with the differing systems in place
- amend some of the rather "awkward English"!
- many of the changes were made slightly more complicated due to much of the code being in Polish. We can thoroughly recommend this site for translating your Polish!
- teach the organisation (none of whom were web professionals) show to use the web site admin section
The website kept spectators all over the world informed of the latest news, and the website served over 2,000,000 pages and some 30GB of data. Not only that, but the Brits won the Standard Class - yay! - something I'm particularly proud of having helped to coach the team. We are proud to have sponsored such a successful event! |
